Newcomer Hayley Coupon doesn’t have much out there. Hayley released her debut single “True Friend” a couple weeks ago, the first track off her upcoming EP Remembrance. The Heavy Roc signee currently resides in New York where she writes and records her own music.
Her cover of Tame Impala‘s wonderful “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” is sweet. Her voice has a uniqueness to it that sets Coupon apart from her singer-songwriter contemporaries and places her in a category all her own. As a big fan of the original I was a bit skeptical to see someone tackle the song as a cover, but Hayley brings a soothing, soulful twang to the Tame Impala track that makes the song sound as if it’s of another time.
