Nylo - "Take it Back"

None

Spin introduced us to Nylo today, and the allure was instant. Her surprisingly candid track “Take it Back” addresses the regret that often mars youthful indiscretions, but her croons make mourning sound almost desirable. Though she’s a female vocalist, her phrasing and vocal delivery is reminiscent of The Weeknd, and shellacked vocals crest over the spindly electronic production with incredible ease.

She presents a mix of sultry pop singer and R&B chops, a winning combination in 2013’s sonic landscape. The use of peripheral noises—children playing, operatic backing and clicks and whirrs to name a few—keeps the track interesting despite a fairly predictable lyrical topic. Stream the song below and look for the her mixtape Indigo Summer out on June 16.
