A lot of currently popular hip-hop is perfect for winter. It’s dark, it’s cold, it’s aggressive, and it doesn’t care if you’re drinking something with fruit in it. The thing is, I like to drink a lot of sangria in the summer but I also love hip-hop. Miami group Flight School Preps’ free album, BlackMarketED, dropped at exactly the right time. The production, handled mostly by the duo BlackMarket, strikes a laid back, colorful vibe right from the first notes of “Let Me In,” opening the album sounding like the slowed down and wobbly keys of Flight Facilities’ “Crave You.” “Dolla On A Dream” has the kind of low-key catchiness of 50 Cent’s most successful choruses, and if “Dat Funk” doesn’t put you in some kind of mood, you might still be stuck in winter.
