The 10 Best Remixes of Disclosure Songs

The Lawrence brother's ascent to stardom has been rapid and impressive. Not long ago they were two kids at home making beats, and now they're Disclosure, saviours of garage, with a U.K. No. 1 album under their belt and headline slots in clubs across the world. Their musical style, influenced by classic house and U.K. Garage, and full of powerful, poppy vocals and bright, memorable melodies, is perfect for a remix, and while there have been many lazy edits made by bandwagon-hopping producers, there have also been a lot of brilliant ones.

Here are the 10 best remixes of Disclosure songs.

1.

2. 10. "What’s In Your Head (Mak & Pasteman Remix)"

Mak & Pasteman got in on the Disclosure remix game early, giving us a fierce take on "What's In Your Head," applying all sorts of edits to the beautiful vocal on this one, turning it from a person to just another instrument at the turn of a knob. It's an intriguing edit, as it has a pulsating nature that is also pretty sparse, probably due to the lack of elements muddying up the overall track. Solid remix to confuse and delight your friends with.

3. 9. "Tenderly (Melé Remix)"

Melé takes the fairly chilled shuffle of Disclosure's original and turns it into a club-ready banger, with big bass hits and those '90s rave keys encouraging you to get the hell up and dance. The Lawrence brothers' music impresses with its smoothness and polish, while Melé's productions tend to go down the in-your-face route. This remix is no exception.

4. 8. "Latch (Zed Bias Remix)"

Although this one is still unreleased, and will probably stay that way forever, it is nevertheless a beauty of a remix by a true legend. In some senses, Disclosure are carrying on the work that Zed Bias himself started as he moved away from dubstep and started combining his dark garage sound with soulful vocals, so him remixing "Latch" sees the circle being completed. With a swinging, trance-inducing beat backing up Smith's yearning vocals, this remix is built for early hours of the morning club play, but is just as perfect for chilled headphone enjoyment.

5. 7. "White Noise (Hudson Mohawke Remix)"

There's no doubt that this would be good, right? HudMo added a serious low-end to the entirety of this track, giving the kicks way more oomph while throwing that infectious melody through the grinder, giving it a sharper edge. The original had more soul to it, which HudMo pushes to the back to increase the bounce.

6. 6. "Tenderly (Kidnap Kid Remix)"

First of all, big up Disclosure for that insanely catchy vocal sample. But even bigger props to Kidnap Kid for the way he ramped up the energy and made the song his own with those trademark lush synth washes giving way to an incredibly bouncy melody. Kidnap Kid brings lots of new elements to his remix, but the way they're used means it never feels cluttered and is never anything less than hands-in-the-air awesome.

7. 5. "You & Me (Toro y Moi Remix)"

The chillwave pioneer's version of the Eliza Doolittle-feautring song is substantially more subdued than the original, sticking with his signature laidback, dreamy production style. But do not be misled - this definitely is not a bad thing. Toro y Moi keeps the claps, doing the bare minimum to maintain some of the upbeat, dance-inspiring qualities of the original, but also chops up Eliza's vocal so that it blends in beautifully with the stuttering synths, and brings a darker mood to the table. The result is something that's ultimately deceiving, seeming like an incredibly straight-forward remix until you get into the thick of it, when all complexities, courtesy of Chaz Bundick, emerge.

8. 4. "Control (Joe Goddard Remix)"

In early 2012 Disclosure started to get some radio play and internet buzz off the back of the release of "Tenderly" / "Flow." Not long after that, the young duo released The Face EP, which not only showed off their mastery of combining pop vocals with their already polished house/garage sound, but also included their own brilliant remix of Jessie Ware's "Running," the track that really seemed to propel them to wider popularity. The release was also followed by a remix EP, released on Joe Goddard (of Hot Chip's) own Greco-Roman label, and featuring an epic remix of "Control" by the man himself. Where the original skips along, bright and carefree, there is a dark, almost menacing edge to Goddard's remix, especially when those ominous synth stabs come out of nowhere around the one minute mark.

9. 3. "You & Me (Baauer Remix)"

Taking a left turn from the trap sounds that made him famous and detour into a sort of house-hop hybrid, Baauer takes Eliza Doolittle's emotional vocal and turns it into the sort of high-pitched sample that would make turn of the century Kanye West and collaborator Just Blaze proud. Rooting the vocal with stomping, skittering drums, warm synths, and a clever balance of constant activity and breathing room, the most buzzed about DJ in 2013 manages to accomplish one of the loftiest achievements of the remixer, creating a work that stands on its own two feet alongside the fantastic original.

10. 2. "Latch (T. Williams Club Edit)"

PMR labelmates Disclosure and T.Williams are leading the UK garage/house charge right now, so it made sense for T to get in and give their breakout single "Latch" a champagne-drenched club sheen. Instead of doing an entire top-to-bottom rerub, we get him adding proper herbs and spices to the track, all while keeping Sam Smith's powerful vocal as the driving force. Dancefloor euphoria.

11. 1. "You & Me (Flume Remix)"

Flume truly has a knack for choosing the perfect songs to rework. Case in point: Disclosure and Eliza Doolittle's "You & Me." He takes only a snippet of Eliza's vocals and weaves that into some trance-inducing strings, which acts as the backbone for the pounding bass that comes roaring in around the one minute mark. The remix explodes into a frenetic, glistening, throbbing thing that sucks you in and keeps you there, putting the song on repeat. It's both minimalist and decadent, easily rivaling the original.
