Over the last few months, Manchester-based singer Bipolar Sunshine has won us over with a combination of an evocative voice and strong song craft that leans towards pop without trend-baiting or seeming disposable. Nice to know he’s certainly got his ear to the ground (or, at very least, a finger on the pulse of popular rap). Merging A$AP Rocky’s “LONG.LIVE.A$AP,” “Wassup,” and “Purple Swag” into a pretty, meandering patchwork, Bipolar manages to turn highlights from the rising rapper’s into a showcase for his vocal chops and aesthetic.
It’s not quite as exciting as more original material, but it’s a nice hold over until Bipolar’s Aesthetics EP sees the light of day on 6/17.
