A K U A is a Canadian-based electronic artist and songwriter that has released her debut EP One’s Company today. The five track release was co-produced by Twin Shadow’s drummer Andy Bauer and features the song “Gravity” that P&P premiered back in May. A K U A’s initial EP bears the fingerprints of the electronic-pop mentality that has permeated the last few years—the same floating synths, firefly blinks of percussion and heavy bass pepper her songs. There’s underlying currents of island, samba and soul rhythms though and there’s the whirr-click of ambient noises, samples and sprinkled in with her velvety voice. Catch her playing a show at The Flat in Brooklyn tomorrow, June 5 if you live near the city.
