Video: Wise Blood - "Rat"

Wise Blood has been making a mess all over Pennsylvania, chopping up samples and getting kicked off stages while anticipation for his June 25 LP continues to grow. Chris Laufman has merged the electronic pop of MGMT and Animal Collective with a hip-hop foundation, Mac Miller with mixing chops. The stoned excitement inherent to Chris Laufman’s music gets some visuals in this new video for “Rat,” a summertime anthem to be played with the car windows down.

“Rat” sees Laufman in various states of disarray and/or homelessness, engaging in random acts of harmless violence that hint towards an oddly charming mental instability (“I’m gonna buy a new dog, and he’ll smell like perfume”). He ignites chairs on lawns, scratches his temple with a baseball bat, and sneaks into empty homes to slug whiskey and try on pants. He’s got reckless ambition, and there’s something hypnotic about it – you want to see this story to its end, and Laufman ends “Rat” by promising he’s “going in for the kill, not sure that I’ll be back.”

Wise Blood’s June 25 album release will coincide with a show at the Glasslands Gallery in Brooklyn.
