Though the respective styles of London Grammar and Kids of the Apocalypse might not seem a natural match at first pass, there’s a certain cosmic logic to their collaboration. Both popped up around the turn of the new year, with little context, providing aesthetics and sounds that (particularly in the case of London Grammar) grabbed attention.
Luckily, the maximalist orchestral pop of Kids provides a refreshingly epic, exciting new context for vocals of London Grammar’s Hannah Reid. The still-mysterious Kids cut and weave Reid’s soaring vocals over booming brass and thunderous drums reminiscent of Woodkid. A powerful and unexpected combination.
