With the release of his Pray project just around the corner, Gilbere Forte drops off “Polaroids.” Over a sparse Grandtheft and Raak-produced beat that shifts from a skeletal electro-stomp, to its warm, shimmering chorus, and echoey second half, Forte runs through one of his favorite recent topics: Lady troubles (as if the cover wasn’t a bit of a giveaway). Temptation, addiction to a wild lifestyle, and redemption are ideas dealt with deftly by the young emcee on “Polaroids”; combined with its imaginative production, the song displays an ambition uncommon of most material given away for free on the internet.
