AlunaGeorge is one of those rare acts that manages to fulfill all your expectations of a big sound without stooping to any formulaic electronic stops and drops. The British tandem has a style that verges on bare, weaving together tension from the most unlikely places – there’s a little trap in there, some N.E.R.D-y snaps, even a shriek or two right out of Animal Collective.
The trend continues with a remix of Dirty Projectors‘ “The Socialites,” which appears on the band’s most recent LP, Swing Lo Magellan. The song opens with DP’s trademark swooning female vocals and some darling wind chimes, but when AlunaGeorge inserts themselves into the conversation after the first verse, the clouds clear and thunder rolls.
