The driving force behind Purity Ring‘s siren sound Megan James has teamed up with Jamaican dancehall artist and Vybz Kartel protege Popcaan and Brooklyn producers Dre Skull for the track “First Time.” James’ vocals are front and center over a wave of synths and building tensions, plus Popcaan’s feature adds a whole new depth to the track. “You will not cease from exploring” is definitely a great lyric on the track, and seems relevant to James as she strays into new streams of music, but lyrically, the song is very much in line with Purity Ring’s sentiments.
