Happy Valentine's Day: Music To Have Sex To

By @JennsDrunk

If you’re looking for a playlist full of sappy love songs to listen to as you gaze lovingly into your Valentine’s eyes, this is not the playlist for you. This is a collection of 10 songs best listened to a couple bottles of wine deep, when you’re drunk enough to get adventurous.

Fellow music enthusiast Huck Kwong and I have compiled the ultimate DTF playlist that will guarantee you the best sleepless, sweaty night you’ve ever had. Let’s face it, the days of taking a nice girl out on a innocent date and praying you get the chance to hold her hand in a movie theatre are over. This is a 2013 Valentine’s Day playlist.

Morning-after pill not included.

2. Jeremih - "Fuck U All The Time (Shlohmo Remix)"

The title of this song alone should be getting you a little worked up. Jeremih, of "Birthday Sex" fame, is no stranger to a slow jam about getting down between the sheets. Shlohmo has taken this already great song and remixed it into a panty-dropping masterpiece. While he leaves the original vocals intact for the most part, he adds layer upon layer of bass and synths along with rolling hi-hats and powerful snare hits. What’s left is Jeremih and Natasha Mosley’s haunting, sex-drenched vocals over Shlohmo’s signature lo-fi, atmospheric production.

3. inc. - "5 Days"

Los Angeles based duo inc. are currently making some of the best R&B music out there. "5 Days," the second release from their debut album, No World, succeeds in the tricky balancing act of maintaining a catchy, upbeat melody while retaining a sophisticated production style that immediately conjures a a sense of what often gets dubbed (for better or for worse) indie R&B. It's sensual and sophisticated. Light a fire, open a bottle of wine, and get lost in this track with someone special—or a stranger. Totally up to you.

4. Rio Grande - "Let's Groove (Nicolas Jaar Remix)"

Leave it to Nicolas Jaar to find the most obscure Earth Wind and Fire cover and turn it into the incredible edit that drew so much attention from his Essential Mix last May. Furthermore, the original is absolutely NOWHERE to be found, which leads us to believe Nicolas Jaar is actually singing all of the female vocal parts on this track. Whatever the case, what the young American-Chilean producer has given us is a gorgeous showcasing of harmonies lathered over a pulsing kick drum/hand clap beat.

5. Wanderhouse - "Sugar"

Wanderhouse is a collaborative effort made up of singer Marie Moreshead and producer Doctor Rosen Rosen. Marie’s sensual vocals compliment the deep, entrancing beat beautifully. The song feels like you’ve submerged yourself in warm water – just let it envelop you.

6. Mikky Ekko - "Pull Me Down (Emperor Remix)"

Mikky Ekko has a voice like silk. His debut single, “Pull Me Down,” is a sex-infused R&B anthem. This remix from Emperor strips the song down a bit without losing any of its intensity. The angelic piano slowly morphs into a throbbing bass line that’s just begging you to take your clothes off.

7. Rozzi Crane - "Let's Get It On (Marvin Gaye Cover)"

Los Angeles local Rozzi Crane is one of the more talented new voices in music, grabbing the attention of Adam Levine, who gave her the honor of being the first signing to his new label, 222 Records. When I saw that she was going to be covering Marvin Gaye’s number one boner jam, "Let’s Get It On," I was skeptical. Not in her ability to sing the song, but in her ability to breathe some new life into one of the most overly-covered tracks of all time. Lucky for all of us, she does not disappoint. Rozzi’s soulful vocals and their acoustic guitar accompaniment are a match made in heaven.

8. Frank Ocean - "Thinkin Bout You (Ryan Hemsworth Bootleg)"

You can’t have a sex playlist that doesn’t include Frank Ocean. It just wouldn’t be right. Ryan Hemsworth takes Frank’s ode to love on the brain and gives it his own spin, adding flourishing synths and funky hip-hop drums. The entire song is essentially a build-up to a massive climax at the final chorus which is something we’re sure all you lovers can appreciate. A bit trippier than the original, this ambient remix still hits you in all the right places. Most specifically, in and around the pants area.

9. Daft Punk - "Something About Us"

The sixth and final single from Daft Punk’s legendary 2001 album Discovery, “Something About Us” is a curious addition to an otherwise high-energy affair. The French duo take a break from electro-dance bangers to give us a smooth, incredibly sexy slowjam that sounds like it could either be from the late 1970s or the early 2030s (as is true of many Daft Punk tracks). Ladies, be warned, prolonged exposure to this track may lead to unexpected (or expected - do your thing) pregnancy.

10. Mariah Carey - "Touch My Body (Cyril Hahn Remix)"

Although Mariah Carey isn’t necessarily the most culturally relevant singer these days, the lyrics to her 2008 single “Touch My Body” will remain relevant to bedrooms for many years to come. Put this song in the trustworthy hands of Vancouver-based producer Cyril Hahn, and you end up with what it would sound like if you gave Mariah Carey a bunch of downers and then punched her in the stomach - in the sexiest way possible. The warped vocals paired with the smooth electronic-infused R&B groove is a musical one-way ticket to Fuck City.

11. D'angelo - "Untitled (How Does It Feel)"

D'ANGELO IS THE MAYOR OF FUCK CITY. THAT IS ALL.
