After her debut album Our Version of the Events topped charts last year, UK newcomer Emeli Sande has been blazing through 2013 as well. The remix of her hit single “Next to Me” features fellow 2012 break-out artist Kendrick Lamar and his laid back west coast flow.
Lamar adds a verse to the beginning of the piano-heavy track, rapping about the glamor of Hollywood and dealing with the rush of sudden fame. On a track that praises the virtues of a loyal man, Kendrick seems like an obvious choice, and his verses feel like natural extensions of the song’s energy.
