As previously reported, My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James had been in studio working on material for a new solo album entitled, Regions Of Light And Sound Of God. The nine-song project, scheduled for a February 5th official release, is thankfully streaming one full week in advance courtesy of the generous folks over at NPR’s First Listen series.

James has stated that he found inspiration for Regions of Light in an 80-year old book of woodcut art called A God’s Man, which according to NPR, “tells the dark story of an artist’s redemption and lingering demons.” In an apparent effort to perpetuate that theme of reinvention, each track on the album represents a small step away from the attitude and character of the traditional MMJ sound. However, it’s in this exploration of self, vocal space, and instrumentation that the album reaches it’s highest points. The prerelease singles “Know Till Now” and “A New Life” are prefect examples of this.

Regions Of Light And Sound Of God represents Jim James’ first full collection of solo material. Responsible for all music and instruments played on the album, it is a pleasant demonstration of the artistic and creative aptitude he possesses. Enjoy a complete stream of the release below and be sure to hit iTunes for a preorder if you enjoy what you hear.
