Brian Fresco ft. Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, Kami de Chukwu & Preston San – "Steamer"

1.

Ah the posse cut. We’re gonna have to check the instant replay to be sure, but it feels like in 2012 has been a good year for posse tracks, with G.O.O.D. Music’s “Mercy,” Odd Future’s “Oldie,” and MMG’s “Power Circle” (with an assist from Kendrick Lamar) standing as the most notable pillars of posse-dom in 2012.

But there’s plenty of quality coming from lower-profile crews, and “Steamer” by Brian Fresco, Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Kami de Chukwu, and Preston San–a large portion of Chicago’s SAVEMONEY collective–is an example of what you can find just beneath the surface. With a squelchy beat by fellow Chicagoan Tree in tow, the group keeps things under four minutes, efficiently throwing down one strong verse after another. It’s simple. It’s a bunch of young emcees rapping and having fun, trying to outdo each other–a cornerstone of the best posse cuts. Give it a spin.
