Talk about a pleasant surprise. Breakage has been one of those producers who has spent his entire career seemingly looking for the perfect beat. That’s one of those journeys that might cause more frustration for the seeker, but we get to experience a load of beautiful tracks during their course of discovery. With his third album set to drop on Digital Soundboy in 2013, we’ve not gotten a lot of new material from Breakage (save for the brilliant “Fighting Fire” single from 2011), so any word on new material is a good one. BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe hailed a new bit from Breakage, “Express,” as his Hottest Record of the Week, but who knew that we’d be getting a free, three-track EP of unreleased Breakage tunes this week as well? I guess you can consider the promo for the next album to start right now!
Further pushing into the sound that he left us with in “Fighting Fire,” this EP will take you more into the house and dubstep sound that he’s been moving into as of late – really chill, with great melodies and sparse vocals. There’s even an intense cut with Dismantle entitled “Ass Up” that’s sure to heat up whatever house party you’re blasting this in. And you will be blasting this.
