Night Beds is the newest signing to Dead Oceans, the same record label that The Tallest Man On Earth, Bowerbirds and Destroyer call home, and on the strength of the softly haunting (it is Halloween after all) “Even If We Try,” he’s set to be a strong addition. Elegant strings and keys make a delicate bed for Winston Yellen’s at time androgynous voice, and a nice switch up near the end takes the song into folky territory.
With a debut EP out in 2013, we can be sure to hear more from Night Beds soon, but for the moment let’s enjoy “Even If We Try,” along with a live version of the same song recorded in a church.
