LOL Boys have been great for while, but they really switched things up on Changes, their latest EP. Going from hip-hop inflected dance music to jazz-influenced, genuinely affecting and restrained songs was an interesting move. It was the smoothness with which they pulled off the transition that proved that this duo needs to be taken seriously.
Along with trying out some new sounds, the whole venture for this EP seems more official – two videos for a lead single is a good look, and Shlohmo‘s edit of one of the best hooks of 2012 so far deserved its own visuals. The video for the original version of “Changes” is great (check it out at the bottom) and this new treatment fits like a glove – simple, stuttering and drenched in melancholy.
