Bat For Lashes' Natasha Khan Explains Going Nude For Her Album Cover

1.

Bat For Lashes‘ Natasha Khan recently sat down with Pitchfork and one of the obvious topics of conversation was the cover art to her upcoming album, The Haunted Man, coming October 23rd. The art (pictured above) had a lot of people talking, but Natasha’s reasons for going with this cover wasn’t about the attention. Here’s what she had to say:

On the album art:

“For me, it’s really important to represent the wild, raw, no makeup, no photoshop– just really archetypal man and woman. People were lifting him onto me and then I’d hold him for, like, three minutes. The weight of him throughout the day was becoming more and more intense, and that’s what a lot of the music is about– being haunted by this weight.”

On the term “NSFW”:

“But the ‘not safe for work’ thing, I heard about. That’s really sad that it’s safe for women’s bodies to be shaved off and photoshopped and lip glossed and saturized, especially women presented as this unattainable ideal about what it is to be a woman when you’re naked.”
