Well this is a strange and pleasant surprise. For Adult Swim’s Singles Program (which features contributions from the Hives, Wye Oak, the Field, Absu and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and upcoming tracks by Death Grips, Com Truise, Wavves, Elite Gymnastics, Yamantaka// Sonic Titan and Gauntlet Hair), Flying Lotus cooked up a hypnotic, jazzy concoction for Odd Future’s Earl Sweatshirt and Captain Murphy (who, according to Google, may not exist beyond this song and Twitter) to glide across. Earl comes out in fine form, sounding sharp as ever and nicely complementing the bubbling beat.
Looks like Flying Lotus is going to be a pretty busy guy for the rest of 2012, with his new album Until the Quiet Comes due for release on October 2nd and a tour set to accompany it throughout the fall (see dates below). While you wait, give “Between Friends” a listen.
