The Vaccines debut album was full of short, sweet slices of punchy guitar music that seemed so fresh and immediate that when the band first burst onto the scene they were hailed in some quarters as the “saviours of indie-rock guitar music”. Of course hype is highly cyclical, and with the spotlight turned elsewhere, the band have had time to start working on their second album. Our first taste of the new album (The Vaccines Come Of Age) is called “No Hope,” and displays a beefier, more mature version of the band, whilst retaining a sense of reckless youthfulness and an innate Britishness. Whilst frontman Justin Young indulges in a spot of navel gazing, drums pound, guitars wail, and for four minutes, your ears can be happy.
