Iron & Wine originally recorded this for the AV Club, and now they’re including it in a single called Two Sides Of George (with a b-side cover of Little Feat’s “Trouble” (their frontman was named Lowell George.))
When asked if his love for “One More Try” was ironic, Samuel Beam insisted that even though it’s a “goofy ’80s song,” it’s a great tune, and there are plenty of great tunes masked by that ’80s production. Then he goes on to cover it, and he proves his point. It is a great tune.
