Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros Debut "Mother"

1.

As previously reported, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros have been very busy as of late with the recording of their forthcoming sophomore album, Here. While that effort is no doubt a taxing process, the group has still found time to contribute to their talents for a very special cause. Every Mother Counts is an organization committed to increasing awareness about the issue of maternal mortality. Starbucks is supporting the platform and has agreed to collaborate by way of a sponsored CD release that features participation from a number of well know artists. This year’s album is shaping up to be a great one with contributions from folks like Eddie Vedder, Beck, David Bowie, Lauryn Hill and of course Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros. The CD will be in Starbucks stores from May 1st – 29th.

Spinner.com interviewed both Every Mother Counts’ founder Christy Turlington and Edward Sharpe singer Alex Ebert about the band’s participation. Their song “Mother” is the only track on the new album that is written from the child’s perspective and originated out of a poem Ebert had written some years before. Head over to Spinner for the full story and a stream of the new song.
