Swim Deep are a young 3-piece (or “3 Bros dreaming” to quote their Facebook page) who’s uplifting melodies and youthful joie de vivre help them stand out from the ever-swelling crowd of surf-rock practitioners. They may be from grey Birmingham (UK), but their music comes straight from beach-side barbecues, and long, warm nights getting drunk and having fun. In “King City” they sing about Jerry Lee Lindberg (the Warpaint bassist) being their girlfriend, but the subject matter isn’t important – instead it’s the fuzzy, happy warmth of the track that will have you playing it over and over.
