In the wake of Whitney Houston’s death, this year’s Grammys Awards show was a sensitive thing. Every chance they got, the hosts and artists tried to reaffirm that the show was a chance to celebrate music. It’s what Whitney would  have wanted and is the best way to pay tribute to her, they said. And that’s probably true, but it still made this awards show a difficult one. Adele made her return, Nicki Minaj put on an attention-demanding performance, and Paul McCartney popped up every 5 minutes, but throughout the entire show there was an obvious black cloud looming over the event.
