Video: Cold Specks - "Holland"

1.

Ready to learn a new genre? “Doom Soul.” That’s how Cold Specks describes her music. Songwriter/vocalist Al Spx is from Canada and lives in London, and she’s gearing up to release her debut album with Mute on May 22nd. “Holland” is dark and ominous, but it’s the “soul” part of this that makes it really interesting. Instead of sounding like some lonely soul singing about death, she captures a much bigger picture that feels very human and universal.

And if you’re curious, the band’s name is taken from a line in James Joyce’s Ulysses: “Born all in the dark wormy earth, cold specks of fire, evil, lights shining in the darkness”.
