I would bet that The Shins had a lot to do with the majority of people who are into indie music’s entries into indie music. They are the gateway drug. The introduction. And they’re coming back to hopefully usher in a new generation of people who, up until now, don’t know anything but the top 40 and what’s covered on MTV. Port of Morrow is coming out in March 2012, and I’m pretty sure The Shins at this point are really just James Mercer, alone and singing about it.
