To sing the kind of music that Charles Bradley sings, you need to have been through some shit. There’s no way in the world to fake the kind of pain in Charles’ voice without experiencing life kicking you down every time you try to get on your feet. The life story of Charles Bradley is an incredible one–he’s faced countless setbacks and was even homeless for some time. But at age 62, after years of trying to make it as a musician, Charles Bradley released his debut album, No Time For Dreaming. All that struggle created some really powerful music.

“Heartaches and Pain” was written after Charles’ brother was shot and killed by his nephew in his mother’s house, where they all lived. Like I said, you can’t fake this kind of shit. A documentary about Charles Bradley’s life is coming soon.
