Youth Lagoon‘s The Year of Hibernation comes out September 27th, and it’s becoming one of my most highly anticipated albums. Just like “17” still does when I listen to it, “Montana” feels deeply, strikingly human. The video does it justice.
Some songs stick in your head, some songs come along at just the right moment, and some songs feel as if they’re written just for you. But that’s not how it feels to listen to Youth Lagoon. Listening to these songs is like sitting by yourself, probably late at night, and looking at an old photo album that displays small moments from a wide span of years. Whether or not it’s your photo album is besides the point. 22 year-old Trevor Powers perfectly captures this intimate nostalgia that is all at once subtle and extremely powerful.
