I still can’t get over how dum that name is. Ergh, miserable way to start off a post. But if you expect some kind of ditzy power pop from a band with such a name, you’re in for a surprise.

Dum Dum Girls’ new single “Coming Down” starts off kind of like Mazzy Stars’ “Fade Into You” put through a garage-pop 2011 hipster filter (which explains why Pitchfork‘s covering them – oooh shots fired), but then the vocals come in, and suddenly they’re hard to not take seriously. The song feels airy and loose at the joints, but the strength of the voice and the simple melody brings it all together. The band’s album Only In Dreams comes out September 27th.
