Isaiah & Hovey - "Fidelity" and "Kerosene"

1.

This Richmond based rap duo Isaiah & Hovey features rapper, Isaiah Clements of Portland, ME and producer, Hovey Benjamin of Washington, DC. They released their first album, Dante’s Love Inferno Machine, a couple months ago. I posted them once last year, and I’ve heard a few other songs since then. At first, I always see the problems with the music. The samples are a little muffled, the vocals never have any layers or effects added, and the choruses are often non-existent.

For some reason I keep coming back to it. They’ve got a style that draws me in. It’s a simple reason, but it’s crazy how much music has no original style. Isaiah’s got one of those baritone voices that can carry an entire song. Hovey’s got an ear for melody in production that often gives a heavy feeling to the music to match up with the lyrics. Plus, “Kerosene” has a Mountain Goats sample. I like these guys, what do you think?
