Neon Indian - "Sleep Paralysist"

1.

Critics rarely take the time to give credit to a label when good music comes out. It’s hard to really pinpoint the label’s contribution to the final product, and people generally don’t like to think of the label as part of the creative process. But whatever they are doing over at Green Label Sound, they are doing it right. They did a great job on their release of Theophilus London’s “Humdrum Town” by taking a good mixtape track and turning it into, in my opinion, Theophilus’ best song yet. Now they take on Neon Indian, who is hit or miss for me (mostly miss), and turn it into a bull’s eye. I think the key here is understanding the artist and creating a final product that is polished and well-produced, but still maintains the essence of the artist instead of trying to bend that artist into a new shape better fit for the masses. Alright, I’m rambling again. Here’s a little more info plus the downloads below.

Green Label Sound’s first release of 2010 is by none other than Austin indie synth-pop outfit Neon Indian. Entitled “Sleep Paralysist,” the song was written by Alan Palomo, lead mastermind of Neon Indian, and it’s his first new original release since his critically acclaimed 2009 debut album Psychic Chasms. “Sleep Paralysist” was produced and mixed by both Palomo and Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear and the result is a collage of catchy melodies, playful beats, and lo-fi haze, all signature sounds of Neon Indian.
