Shawn Mendes is in Toronto—and in his feelings—in the new music video for his heart-wrenching single “It’ll Be Okay.”
On the track, the 23-year-old Canadian singer seems to channel the pain from his recent split with Camila Cabello. The visuals see him looking forlorn while ambling through the snowy streets of the 6ix, most notably hitting Berczy Park and the Distillery District.
“If you tell me you’re leaving, I’ll make it easy/It’ll be OK,” he sings on the track, which dropped in late December. “If we can’t stop the bleeding, we don’t have to fix it/We don’t have to stay.” Sounds like our boy is going through it!
Ahead of the video release, Mendes did a livestream with fans about the drop.
“The video was extremely freezing cold to film. We were in Toronto, and it was nighttime, and it was freezing, and there was lots of fake snow going in my mouth,” he said. “But other than that, it was pretty nice.”
“It’s nice to be able to shoot in Toronto. It’s nice to be able to see the skyline of the city that I live in, in a music video for the first time.”
Just days before the video premiere, fans caught Mendes filming it in Berczy Park. They captured footage of him wandering around the park while being sprinkled with fake snow. You know, as one does when they’re experiencing heartbreak.
