Late last year, we got the sad news of Ruff Sqwad DJ, producer and Pyro Radio host DJ Scholar’s tragic and untimely passing. In the weeks since, tributes have been pouring in for the late grime legend and just this weekend, he was laid to rest by his family and close friends.
Continuing to celebrate the life and achievements of Scholar, East London MCs So Large and Roachee have teamed up for a new video that pays tribute to the Ruff Sqwad hero, collecting together a mixture of photos and video footage to celebrate Scholar’s extensive contributions to grime culture and all the lives he touched along the way.
A true celebration of his life, the Scholar-produced tune packs a jumpy low-end bounce, hitting all the classic grime hallmarks, with So Large and Roachee taking turns sharing their memories of the Bow-hailing legend.
Between the tales of taking “half the ends” to the MOBOs, tours round the Mediterranean and scenes of Scholar right in the thick of grime’s epicentre, it’s hard not to be moved by it all.
