In just the past 12 months, Egyptian-born, UK-based singer-songwriter Layal has made serious waves in the UK’s ever-thriving jazz scene—and she only released her debut single last year. Now she’s here to reaffirm that position with her first single of 2021, “For The Love Of The Cool”.

A funk-tinged, neo-soul jam, “For The Love Of The Cool” bubbles and fizzes with just a hint of psychedelics at the edges. While she’s been embraced by the jazz scene, this new one suggests that from this point on she’ll be exploring far sounds beyond the overlapping worlds of jazz and soul. What’s more, word has it we can expect to hear some of those new sounds in a batch of singles she has prepped for the rest of the year.

Speaking on the new single and what inspired it, Layal said: “This song is my opinion of the past year and my feelings towards it. A lot of crazy things happened last year that’s why in the song I talk about wanting to move to another planet to look for my own utopia there. It also talks about my own personal growth and the rollercoaster of emotions I’ve been through on this soul-searching trip. The lyrics create some vivid colourful visuals as I describe the world in my head that I’m always lost in with clouds made of silk and pools of emotions. The song is also promoting the idea that people should just focus on their own passions and let others be so we can all be happy.”

Take the new single in below before it officially drops tomorrow, March 24.
