Even with all the fan campaigns and years of online hype, when Top Boy made its long-awaited return in 2019, its enormous success was still a pleasant surprise. But it wasn’t just the return of Sully and Dushane that made it such a hit, it was the raft of new characters portrayed by new and emerging actors we warmed to that made it such a hit.

One of those new faces was South London-born actor and musician Nyshai Caynes (aka House Of Pharaohs founding member Bandanna) who played Romy, one of the new additions to the Summerhouse gang. Originally cast in a smaller supporting role in the first of the new seasons with a more substantial presence in the latest, as it turns out it was his first real acting role.

In this new short film, made by creative studio Making Numbers, he talks about growing up in South London, his exhausting work ethic and the years and years of graft he put in to make himself a success, first in music and now as an actor. With more film roles on the horizon, it looks like that success is set to continue, so get ahead of the curve and get to know Bandanna.

Hit play at the top.
