Lil Nas X Discusses Picking Online Fights Carefully

In an exclusive clip from Lil Nas X's forthcoming interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Lil Nas X talks about picking his online fights carefully.

In an interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe that will air today (Sept. 15), Lil Nas X spoke about picking fights and responding to trolls online.

“I definitely make sure I am picking my fights carefully,” the rapper said during the sit-down. “And I guess I try to pick out the ones that I’m like, ‘OK, here’s something to actually talk about.’ Because if somebody’s just like ‘trashy gay’ there’s nothing there. But if somebody is like, ‘You’re pushing this and this is destroying Black men as a whole and emasculation,’ actually, this is somebody who actually believes something versus just an insult. So it’s like, let me talk to this person because you never know whose mind is flickering. Because I’ve had a lot of views that I’ve changed within the last three years, you know?”

Lil Nas X is gearing up for the arrival of his debut album Montero. He shared the project’s cover art in late August, which features him nude and floating over a fantastical, Grecian-esque setting, surrounded by a creek, butterflies, foliage, and more.

Montero is slated for a Sept. 17 release and features Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Miley Cyrus, and Elton John. Nas X celebrated his upcoming debut with a viral pregnancy-themed photoshoot, where he was playfully pregnant with the album, telling People he guesses he’s both “the father as well as the mother.”

Watch the clip up top, and tune into Zane Lowe’s Apple Music 1 show at 1 p.m. ET today to hear the interview in full.
