One artist we haven’t seen do a Verzuz yet is Busta Rhymes, and Fat Joe thinks he knows why. According to Joey Crack himself, artists are afraid to step into the ring with Busta because they know his catalog could embarrass theirs.
“Fat Joe is scared to do Verzuz with Busta Rhymes and so is everybody else,” Fat Joe said during his now popular Instagram Live sessions. “You gotta understand, sometimes you ever notice—you seen boxers and they knock everybody out? People be scared to fight those boxers.”
Joe went on to explain that Busta is a well-rounded artist who is nearly perfect in all aspects of the craft.
“Busta Rhymes is gonna out-rap, out-perform anybody who goes up in a Verzuz with him. That’s a fact,” he continued. “Yo, Busta Rhymes nobody wanna get in there with you, man. You might have to be an honorary—they gotta give you the check for no reason.”
Fat Joe knows all too well how hard a smash record can hit during a dogfight. Although Crack proved that he was one of rap’s more accomplished artists with his song choices during his own recent Verzuz, Ja Rule overwhelmed him with an onslaught of mega-hit records. Joe believes that the same thing will happen to anyone who decides to go toe-to-toe with Busta Rhymes.
The potential Busta Rhymes Verzuz has been a hot topic of discussion since the platform began. While we don’t have any concrete knowledge as to why it hasn’t happened yet, Busta has discussed a potential battle with his longtime friend, Missy Elliott.
“I’m excited about doing a Verzuz with Missy,” he told The Morning Hustle in the video above. “Missy is like my sister. She’s like my twin. … I just think that we can set a new standard for the Verzuz battles if we did it together.”
