Between Drake’s reference to Kanye West on Scary Hours 2 cut “Wants and Needs” and Rick Ross’ guest feature on the already-fan favorite “Lemon Pepper Freestyle,” the OVO champion has his fans captivated.
Now, former NFL player Chad Johnson—who is apparently a friend of Ross—is upping the ante with a new reveal about Drizzy and Ricky Rozay. “The joint album they’re doing together [will] unseat all projects they’ve done to date,” he wrote, quote-tweeting the @RapCaviar account.
Drake and Ross have a longtime working relationship, and it’s been said before that they were releasing a project together. While neither has confirmed that a joint album is en route, talks of a Drake and Ross mixtape titled YOLO began a decade ago.
“I have been working on a mixtape with Ross,” Drake told XXL in 2011. “A mixtape called YOLO [That means] You Only Live Once. I’ve been working on that for the last couple of weeks. We haven’t really connected because he’s been going through this thing with his health. I’ve been stashing my little beats and verses.”
Last year, the subject came up again in Ross’s interview with Complex.
“[YOLO] was just a vibe,” Ross said. “You never know what could happen in the future, but me and Drake, him being in Miami at that time [in 2011-2012], and him coming by the crib every day, we was spending a lot of time together. And it was a serious possibility. We wasn’t just talking shit. We really was in the studio a lot. It’s just not the same no more. Meaning, the way he travel and the way I move. But is it a possibility? There’s always a possibility for that, because it would be simple for us.”
Still, Ochocinco’s comment has fueled fans’ excitement about the possibility, particularly since “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” is just another in a string of Drake-Ross hits. Songs like “Money in the Grave,” “Stay Schemin’,” and “Aston Martin Music” have found chart success, while others like “Lord Knows” and “Made Men” are beloved by their followers.
