DJ Muggs and Crimeapple are a perfect combo. Today they dropped Cartagena, the follow-up to their 2019 album Medallo, and “Peligrosisimo” is the first single and video from the release. Muggs delivers a menacing beat (what else is new?) while North Jersey’s Crimeapple seamlessly switches between spitting in English and Spanish as they walk through a trap in Colombia. Not everyone is able to walk around freely in these places, let alone shoot a video, so you gotta respect the shooters.

The duo spoke with Complex about the single and the new project.

On the song and video:

“Peligrosisimo translates to very dangerous. Which is an understatement when describing some of the places we’ve worked on music and shot videos (Manrique, La Boquilla, etc.) in Colombia. Rappers love talking about Colombia but most wouldn’t dare setting foot on those parts of the soil. We’re embraced when [we] do, every time. You do the math.”

On their second project together:

“Doing another album was a no-brainer. The chemistry was there from jump. Outside of that, it’s a family affair at this point. When we link it’s a movie, quite literally. We give listeners an experience more so than just another album. We take you places you probably won’t ever go on your own.”

Hopefully we get another tape to complete the trilogy. You can stream Cartagena below.
