Common paid a visit to Power 106’s L.A. Leakers in advance of his next album A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2.

The Chicago native spit an 8-minute freestyle over Group Home’s “Livin’ Proof” and Raekwon’s “Incarcerated Scarfaces.”

“Ah, the holy spirit of Chicago/Married to the game, I should’ve took the bitch to Cabo/I know, I know, like Bill Withers, feel n***as/They say stay safe but they still hit us/Feel the rivers, it’s like the ghost of Emmett Till with us,” Common rapped over “Livin’ Proof.”

Leading up to A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2, out Friday, Sept. 9, Common has released a few album cuts, including “Majesty (Where We Gonna Take It)” with PJ, “When We Move” with Black Thought and Seun Kuti, and “Imagine” with PJ.

“I wrote ‘Imagine’ at a time when we were all going through a lot,” Common explained back in July. “But something kept telling me to focus on the good and the things I wanted to see in the world. For me, music is one of the things that gives me hope and happiness throughout these times, whether I am creating it or listening to it.”

Pt. 2 follows the first installation in the series, A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 1, which arrived in October 2020 via Loma Vista Recordings. While Pt. 1 was written as a call to action—during a peak of the pandemic and social unrest in the U.S.—Pt. 2 aims to help listeners learn how to cope in our current climate.
