Best New Music This Week: Lil Durk, Babyface Ray, Quavo, Takeoff

This week, we have a new single from Migos’ Quavo and Takeoff, also known as Unc and Phew. Lil Durk is back with the deluxe edition of his March 2022 album, 7220, featuring the new song “Computer Murderers.” Babyface Ray also teamed up with DJ ESCO and Lil Yachty for his celebratory track “Congratulations” from a deluxe album of his own. The week’s best new music also includes songs from Harry Styles, Lil Gnar, Dreezy, Hit-Boy, Symba, and more.

“Hotel Lobby (Unc and Phew)” is a hard-hitting record that unites two-thirds of the Migos, Quavo and Takeoff. Takeoff delivers a hypnotic verse, rapping, “Do this shit for the fam’ ‘cause this shit bigger than me/ Color stones in my infinity link, and in the factory, masterpiece/ I call him twin ‘cause that be my brother/ We got the same Rollie, he matchin’ me.” Quavo provides the slick chorus, spitting about narcotics and his rockstar lifestyle. “Migo gunners out the jungle/ Buy it all, fuck a fronter,” he raps. “Hotel Lobby” is the first single from just Quavo and Takeoff, who are also known as the uncle and nephew duo, Unc & Phew.

“Computer Murderers” is dizzying track from Lil Durk that finds the Chicago rapper delivering hard-hitting bars over TrillBans and TouchofTrent production. He issues several jabs at his enemies, before discussing street activity. Durk also appears to reference NBA YoungBoy on that track, which many fans think is fueling their ongoing feud. “Computer Murderers” is the only track added to the deluxe version of Lil Durk’s album, 7220 (Reloaded)

Babyface Ray f/ DJ ESCO & Lil Yachty, “Congratulations”

On “Congratulations,” Babyface Ray is in good spirits as he sends his friends positive words for overcoming obstacles. “Let’s give a toast for the obstacles you done made it through/ They thought I couldn’t, they ain’t never know I was capable/ I touched the ground once, I get it, bring it straight to you,” he raps over DJ ESCO production. The track features Lil Yachty, who delivers a reflective and melodic verse about codeine, fake friends, and his come-up. “Congratulations” appears on the deluxe edition of Babyface Ray’s Face.

Symba, “GOAT”

Right off the bat, Symba starts off his latest single “GOAT” by name-dropping some of the biggest artists in the game, from Kendrick Lamar to Drake and J. Cole. He also delivers some reflective bars about the state of the rap game right now and what it takes to be considered the greatest in the genre. “See now the game is based off narratives and comparisons/ Anything can be true if you get enough people sharing it/ How could the facts be fake if it’s opinion based?/ Anyone can enter the race in an interface/ That’s why I think I’m the GOAT,” he declares. It’s a strong first step from the rising artist as he gets ready to drop his forthcoming project, Results Take Time, this summer.

070 Shake f/ Christine and the Queens, “Body”

“Body” is a slow-burning and sensual record from 070 Shake where she raps and sings about exploring the human body. “I think I got to know your body/ We’ll travel to the dream, stay flying/ I guess I found me a new high,” she sings on the chorus. Christine and the Queens is also featured on the track. “Body” appears on 070 Shake’s latest project, You Can’t Kill Me.

Lil Gnar f/ Lil Keed & Yak Gotti, “No Reason”

“No Reason” is a high-energy track that unites Lil Gnar with the late Lil Keed and Yak Gotti. Gnar delivers a fun and braggadocious chorus, rapping, “I pull on that shit for no reason/ Dior, it come with no creases/ Back in the day, they ain’t need me/ I’m finna pull off in that ‘Ghini.” Yak Gotti follows up next with an energetic verse, while Lil Keed finishes the song strong, rapping, “I be rocking Amiri jeans, I put stones in my earrings/ No, I don’t even talk on business, like I’m blind, ain’t never seen it/ And everything I got, I prayed to get it.” “No Reason” arrives shortly after Lil Keed’s tragic death, and appears on Lil Gnar’s Die Bout It

TiaCorine, “FYK”

“FYK” is a hard-hitting track from emerging talent TiaCorine. The North Carolina artist embodies her inner diva as she yells on the track and calls out her haters. “No, I don’t give a fuck about shit/ I’m not yo bitch/ I just get  money, ho/ Fuck your kids,” she spits over the beat, which is anchored in simplistic piano notes. The track is quite short, but TiaCorine makes her presence felt throughout.

Harry Styles is back. “Daydreaming” is a whimsical track that finds the singer floating over a retro and uptempo beat. He’s consumed by his love so much that he desires to be in a perpetual dream-like state, singing, “Livin’ in a daydream/ She said, ‘Love me like you pay me’/ You know I’ll be gone for so long/ So give me all of your love, give me somethin’ to dream about.” Daydreaming” is a standout from Harry Styles new album, Harry’s House

Dreezy & Hit-Boy f/ Future, “Sliders”

“Sliders” is a Future-assisted track coming from Chicago’s Dreezy and certified hitmaker Hit-Boy. On the track, Future surprises with a saucy chorus, rapping, “Just like a sniper, I took the long shot/ Hittin’ my target, way ‘cross the globe.” Dreezy is the real star of the show, though, as she delivers a slick verse that’s loaded with pop culture references: “I just gave him one look and my nigga slapped him for me like I’m Jada/ I’m the only bitch seein’ Future in this bitch like That’s So Raven.” “Sliders” is slated to appear on a joint project between Dreezy and Hit-Boy, which is expected to drop on May 27.
