It might be spooky season, but this week’s batch of new music provided a refreshing variety of upbeat singles along with some blockbuster albums. Quavo and Takeoff made their debut as Unc & Phew with their new album, Only Built For Infinity Links, while G Herbo speaks for the streets yet again on his emotionally charged new record, Survivors Remorse: A Side. A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie teamed up with fellow melodic heavyweight Roddy Ricch for his latest single, “B.R.O. (Better Ride Out),” and Ty Dolla Sign and Mustard made fall feel warm with their upbeat song “My Friends.” The best new music this week also comes from Kali, Tinashe, and more.

Unc & Phew, "Two Infinity Links"

An infinity link is the strongest chain link in jewelry and is able to last for an extremely long time. Quavo and Takeoff  have an unshakable bond that is as strong as that Cuban link, and their lifelong connection and impact are exemplified on the “Two Infinity Links,” which ushers in the beginning of their Unc & Phew era. This is a standout track on the duo’s debut album, Only Built For Infinity Links, because it illustrates more of their origin story and acts as a perfect primer for the rest of the project.

Ty Dolla Sign & Mustard f/ Lil Durk, “My Friends”

It pays to have a strong circle of friends, and Ty Dolla Sign and Mustard highlight that in their latest track, “My Friends.” With an assist from Lil Durk, Ty and Mustard string together an uplifting track about succeeding alongside your crew. The track sounds triumphant, because who wouldn’t want to be “On top of the world, me and my clique.”

Gryffin & Tinashe, “Scandalous”

There are few things more exciting than having a new flame, and Gryggin and Tinashe distill that feeling and inject it into their new song, “Scandalous.” “Got my heart saying, ooh lala/ how me how you do the things you do, lala/ it blows my mind,” Tinashe croons over Gryffin production. And like spending time with a fresh crush, it doesn’t take much effort to enjoy “Scandalous.” Don’t think about it too much, just listen and have fun.

Tiësto & Black Eyed Peas, “Pump It Louder”

The summer might be over, but Tiësto and the Blacked Eyed Peas are keeping the warm vibes going with their energetic new track “Pump It Louder.” Sampling possibly one of the most surf-centric songs of all time, Dick Dale’s “Miserlou,” and remixing the popular 2009 Black Eyed Peas song “Pump It Harder,”  the two parties create a song that is built for a beachside club in Ibiza. With the bumping base and solid electronic production that Tiësto and the Blacked Eyed Peas have become known for, “Pump It Louder” makes it easy to forget that winter is coming.

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie & Roddy Ricch, “B.R.O. (Better Ride Out)”

A Boogie and Roddy Ricch are two of the most seasoned melodic rappers in the game right now, and they put their years of smooth hook-making experience to use on their latest track, “B.R.O. (Better Ride Out).” A Boogie takes the title of “brother” very seriously as he uses the song to explain the difference between close friends and associates. It’s hard to decide which is better, Roddy’s elite adlibs or Boogie’s addictive hooks. Thankfully, this song doesn’t make us decide because it delivers both as A Boogie pairs his New York rhymes with a West Coast bounce-like beat that Roddy rides on.

Kali, "Bout U"

Kali may be able to make sweet rap tracks, but don’t get it twisted, she’s still about that action if ever the situation arises. “Bout U” illustrates how the Georgia-bred rapper’s hands work as she uses the tracks opening moments to explain how she means business. “Yeah, they think I’m hella cute, I’m gon’ beat they ass,” she spits as the menacing beat helps the bars carry more weight. “Bout U” is ultimately a cautionary tale to never judge a book by its cover, provided by the always-charismatic Kali.

G Herbo, "4 Minutes of Hell, Pt. 6"

G Herbo takes a painful trip down memory for the sixth installment of his “4 Minutes of Hell” series off of his latest album, Survivors Remorse: A Side. Herbo is not only a product of his environment, he’s also a mirror that demonstrates how others who came from similar circumstances can find a way out of them as well. There’s real strife in his voice as he describes the unfairness of life; but despite all of the trauma, Herbo still manages to push on because he recognizes that he’s setting an example for the next generation.

Lil Yachty, "Poland"

Have you heard the news? Lil Yachty took the woOoOOoOooOoock to Poland. This week, an 83-second Yachty song called “Poland” leaked online and immediately went viral. The song is fairly simple (and likely unfinished) but its hook is so unique that we can’t stop thinking about it. Basically, Yachty sounds like he’s singing through a fan as he belts out “I took the wock to Poland” with extra warble in his voice. It’s weird as hell, strangely addictive, and ridiculously fun to sing along with. He put a free version up on his SoundCloud, but let’s hope he records a second verse and puts it on DSPs ASAP. The people need it, Yachty! —Eric Skelton
