Tekashi 6ix9ine, as widely reported Monday, is currently behind bars after being brought in by federal authorities on racketeering and firearms charges. Now, new comments from 6ix9ine's lawyer reveal that he's being held in general population at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
Lawyer Lance Lazzaro toldTMZ as much early Tuesday, adding that he believes 6ix9ine "will be fine" despite the circumstances. The report also dives into a bit more of what was disclosed by federal authorities Monday regarding what transpired ahead of the rapper's incarceration, which also saw the arrests of five other associates on the same or similar charges.
6ix9ine has been charged with participating in a racketeering conspiracy, using and carrying brandished and discharged firearms, participating in a gunpoint robbery, and agreeing to shoot an individual who—per the Department of Justice—"had shown disrespect to Nine Trey, resulting in an innocent bystander being shot."
6ix9ine now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 32 years in prison, with a maximum of life. Lazzaro, according to Rolling Stone, originally came forward with a bail offer that included $1 million, the surrender of his client’s passport, and house arrest. That was denied.
"This criminal enterprise has no business in our city, and we will continue to work with our partners to ensure that Nine Trey crew members, including the more well-known Tekashi 6ix9ine, are in a place where they cannot inflict further violence on our communities," Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent in Charge Angel M. Melendez said Monday.
Dummy Boy, 6ix9ine's new album featuring Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, is set for release on Nov. 23. Back in October, 6ix9ine avoided jail time on his 2015 child sex case with a four-year probation.
