G Herbo Reminds Us It's Swervo Season With New Funk Flex Freestyle

G Herbo's Southside-produced 'Swervo' is out Friday. The title, based on an idea from Southside, represents Herbo's new alter-ego, described as the "other side" of his 'Humble Beast' persona.

Swervo Season continues with G Herbo going off the top for Funk Flex on Hot 97.

Unlike some freestyles that come straight from the Notes app on an artist's phone (not that there's anything wrong with that!), Herbo seems to be truly freestyling here. Catch the results up top.

Herbo's Swervo, produced entirely by prolific Southside, is out this Friday. "Swervo is a lifestyle, it's my alter-ego," Herbo told Complex when premiering the official JMP-directed video for the album's title track last month. That alter-ego, he added, represents the "other side" of the Humble Beast era. However, Southside gets points for giving him the idea.

"We would hook up in Atlanta, Miami, or L.A. and just hop in $200K whips, swerve thru traffic—really just have fun and enjoy life—then go to the lab and capture that feeling," Herbo said of the multi-city recording sessions. "It's that vibe. I can't get that feeling in Chicago, because Chicago ain't a place you can relax and let your guard down. Not even for a second."

Herbo also joined Complex for Wednesday's episode of Everyday Struggle, taking the opportunity to tease his due-in-2019 collab project with Lil Bibby and detail his love for for freestyling. "That's the whole point, that's the beauty of rapping to be able to freestyle and go off the top and even mess up," he said. "It's a freestyle...I'm glad that people still appreciate that part of rap, because I do too."
