Lil Xan has been very open about his drug addiction, and now that he’s reportedly clean, he’s calling out his ex-manager, who Xan says used to enable him.
In an Instagram Live session now saved as a post captioned “The Dangers of The Music Industry,” the 25-year-old compared his own situation to Lil Peep’s, who died in 2017 at age 21 from a drug overdose.
“Do you guys remember the whole Lil Peep, the story when his management was giving him drugs and it just wasn’t helping out and all that?” Xan asked in the video. “That happened to me on tour. My manager, well I don’t even like to call him my manager anymore, Stat Quo, remember that name, Stat Quo.”
The Total Xanarchy creator explained that he was a “drug addict” when he was on tour in 2018 and ’19 with Nicki Minaj and Juice WRLD. “And my manager was supplying me with drugs,” he said.
Lil Xan claimed his manager knew his dealers, so if Xan was experiencing withdrawal and needed to perform, Stat Quo—the now-42-year-old rapper—would “make calls” and reportedly spend thousands of dollars to have the substances sent to wherever they were on tour.
“He’s gonna act like he didn’t do that, like a fuckin’ hypocrite, and I’m really feeling like I should take him to court,” Xan said. “Because that was a time I almost died from the drugs. I was so skinny, unhealthy. Yeah, but his name is Stat Quo, I’ll even fuckin’ pin this right here. … Also, he took my car away, too, that I paid the majority of the money. … Now he wants $30,000 of the remaining money to pay it off. It’s literally all my money in the car and he won’t give it to me.”
Stat Quo was once signed to Shady Records and Aftermath Entertainment as Eminem and Dr. Dre’s protégé. He was on track to drop his debut album Statlanta via the two labels, but it didn’t arrive until 2010 through the label Dream Big Ventures. Stat Quo later launched the label Blood Money Entertainment with the Game, and subsequently dropped a number of projects.
In an interview from August, Lil Xan spoke with 60 Minutes about how his addiction began, explaining that when he was 18, he was prescribed a benzo for his anxiety, and later switched to Xanax. He tried to quit after that. “I looked in the mirror and I’m like—it was just that moment you know, like, if I keep doing this, I’m gonna die soon,” he told the show.
