Toronto rappers Killy and Smiley have teamed up for a single that couldn’t be more Toronto, paying homage to a Raptor legend with “Vince Carter.”
On the Oz and Boi-1da-produced track, Killy revels in his local stardom and mounting success. “I fly through the city / Vince Carter,” he raps on the song’s chorus, alluding to Carter’s high-flying dunks from his prime years in Toronto.
Smiley’s verse features his signature sing-songy flow and vocal inflections.
In the song’s video, directed by recurring collaborator Gravelsite, both Killy and Smiley are rapping their respective verses at Hong Shing Restaurant in Toronto while they share a meal. The video is also full of cameos with artists like Dave, Why G, and DJ Charlie B all appearing in various parts of the video.
“Vince Carter” is Killy’s second single in as many months, having recently released “CEO” on his own Secret Sound Club label.
Killy recently embarked on an 18-city European tour that began on Oct. 4 in Helsinki, Finland. Prior to the tour, Killy performed at the inaugural edition of Rolling Loud Toronto back in September.
In September, OVO’s Smiley celebrated his Drake-featuring single “Over The Top” going gold.
