Smoke Dawg's Family Creates GoFundMe to Help Cover Funeral Costs

Just days after Smoke Dawg was shot and killed in a busy part of downtown Toronto this past weekend, his family are trying to raise $50,000 for his funeral. The family of an innocent bystander also shot and killed during the same incident have created a similar GoFundMe campaign.

Days after rapper Smoke Dawg was shot and killed in downtown Toronto, his sister, Tifa, has created a GoFundMe to help cover the expenses of his funeral. At the time of writing, the campaign has raised a little over $14,000 of its $50,000 goal.

“I am still in shock and at a loss for words so I will keep you all posted when I receive any updates,” the page reads. “Please keep our family in prayer and may God bless you all!”

The family of Kosi Modekwe, an innocent bystander who was killed in the same shoot-out, has also created a GoFundMe. Their campaign has already raised over $8,200 of their $60,000 goal.

“He was a loving son, big brother, boyfriend, friend, employee and more,” the campaign reads. “He was always looking for ways to help others, and today our family needs your help.” The money will go toward paying for the funeral, a vigil, and a memorial in his name.

The incident occurred on June 30 in Toronto’s Entertainment District at around 8 p.m. Shots were fired outside of a nightclub, and two men and one woman were sent to a hospital.

“The scene just turned chaotic,” one witness said. “Down on Peter Street we just saw a mass of tourists—normal Saturday traffic on Queen Street—basically running scared for their lives. It was intense, it was very chaotic."

Smoke Dawg was the third rapper to die in the month of June. Jimmy Wopo was shot and killed in his own neighborhood in Pittsburgh on June 18. On the same day, XXXTentacion was shot and killed during a robbery in Deerfield, Florida.
