Britney Spears shared a message on Instagram Tuesday where she appeared to call out her family over their complicity throughout her 13-year conservatorship.
Spears advises her followers to help out if they have a friend who is living in a difficult circumstance that could be interpreted as her own.
“I suggest if you have a friend that’s been in a house that feels really small for four months … no car … no phone … no door for privacy and they have to work around 10 hours a day 7 days a week and give tons of blood weekly with never a day off,” she wrote in the caption. “I strongly suggest you go pick up your friend and get them the hell outta there.”
Britney stated in her testimony requesting the court put an end to her conservatorship earlier this year that she has no control over her medical decisions, and daily activities, which allegedly include not being able to conceive a child due to the IUD that she’s been barred from removing, and preventing her from riding in the car with fiancée Sam Asghari.
“If you’re like my family who says things like ‘sorry, you’re in a conservatorship’ … probably thinking you’re different so they can fuck with you,” Spears wrote. In that same testimony, the singer claimed she wanted to sue her family.
Britney’s younger sister Jamie Lynn first spoke out about the conservatorship in June, claiming she felt like it wasn’t her place to address the matter until her sister was able to talk openly about it.
“This is my freaking big sister before any of this bullshit,” she said. I don’t care if she wants to run away to the rainforest and have a zillion babies in the middle of nowhere, or if she wants to come back and dominate the world the way she has so many times before. I have nothing to gain or lose either way.”
Britney’s mother Lynne said she had mixed feelings over what has transpired over the last few months, adding, “I don’t know what to think … It’s a lot of pain, a lot of worry.”
Spears concluded by expressing gratitude for her attorney Mathew Rosengart, whom she credits for helping change her life.
