Joey Bada$$ stopped by Funk Flex to deliver his third freestyle for the Hot 97 DJ and as Joey noted, "Third times a charm."
DJ Funk Flex set up Joey with a beat and the rapper wasted no time laying right into, it spitting bars about his new lavish lifestyle before rapping about his relentless rise to the top. Shortly into it, Joey dropped the line "Remember my school teachers never had faith neither/Now I'm at the Ivy Leagues as a big time speaker." The sentiment feels like a huge shout out to the same resilient message that Joey shared in his newest track, "Devastated," and his recent note where he opened up about his childhood.
In the note, he admitted the devastating moment in his life was his parents' split and watching his mom to support them financially, working two jobs, leaving him alone, and coming home to eviction notices on the door. It was that struggle that fueled him to master his music and work towards a day when he would be able to pay his mom back. He definitely did succeed and took a moment to point it out in his rap noting that he has "the motherfucking world in the palm of my hand."
Just when you think he's done, Joey layed out another one with some clear shots that even worked in a Don Cheadle reference. The whole thing is pretty smooth and definitely worth a watch as it's pretty clear Joey only continues to get better. Back in April, he also stunned with his Power 106 freestyle and did the same during his 5 Fingers of Death freestyle on Sway in the Morning when he clapped back at Troy Ave for his comments about Capital Steez' suicide.
